update

Hi! Did you think I forgot about you? I didn't. We've been having a rough week, both battling what we thought were colds. Turns out, we have sinus infections. I'm on the mend, but Al's just now in the worst of it. He's been travelling for work too, and now leaves tonight for a bachelor party.

Which leads me to my next topic... since Al will be gone all weekend and his birthday is tomorrow, let's take a quick moment to wish him Happy Birthday, throwback style!

Happy birthday to the most thoughtful, hard working, and caring man. Thanks for making me laugh and feel loved every day. Love you long time, Ack Man! (p.s. what's with that Cubs hat?!)

One last update, because I know how much you guys care. I made a rash decision and chopped my hair off on Tuesday. Four inches gone! I've yet to take a decent photo of it, because it is a nasty humid mess here in New York (so not the weather for debuting a new 'do), but here's a little sneak peak.  I'm excited to curl it and play around with it a little more this weekend. Feels so good. Clean and chic and easy. And lighter too (although, I think some of the lightness in the photo is from the natural light. It's definitely not white at the bottom). We "painted" some of the strands in between the standard highlight foils for a more sun-kissed look. Perfect for summer. I'm pumped. Can't you tell by my awkward selfie face?

And while we're updating on The Rose Family, we can't forget our fearless leader boss, Lily Mayo. Here's her update. So, basically, no change.

Sorry for the light week. Hoping to get ahead of things this weekend while Al's away!

P.S. Past haircuts (1, 2, 3)

make it happen

^^ Right after I said 'yes'!

Four years ago today, the smartest, hardest-working, funniest, sweetest, boy asked me to be his wife. (Spoiler alert: I said yes. We got married. It was awesome.) I love thinking back to that day and how euphoric it all felt. I felt like I was dreaming! And I'm pretty sure I blacked out for part of it. Here's how it all went down...

mother's day interview

^^ Mother's Day 1987

For Mother's Day this year, I wanted to do something a little different. Rather than a gift guide and an emphasis on things, I wanted to honor my mom by interviewing her. I wanted to hear about her experience as a mom and how it has changed her as a person. I wanted to give her an opportunity to reflect and give advice.

Her answers are fantastic! This interview is something my sister Emily and I will cherish forever. I encourage you to interview your mom this Mother's Day. It's such a fun and rewarding exercise!

Below is the interview with my mom...

throwback thursday

Remember that one time when KU won the National Championship? Yeah, I do. It was my senior year of college and it was one of the best memories I have from life. Seriously.

Throwing it back this Thursday - the first day of March Madness (and the first day of spring - oh hey spring!) - with my old Facebook album from 2008...

We watched the Final Four game against UNC at The Wheel (aka the best bar on the face of the Earth). All our friends packed in tight, standing on tables, sitting atop booths. Ahh college.

Well look who it is.  Us. Six years younger.

And Emmy! Only 19 years old (hmm how'd she get in that bar?).

After beating UNC, the entire town headed to Mass Street for celebrations. Walking, high-fiving strangers, finding your friends in the crowd . It's the happiest pilgrimage ever.

A few days later, we beat Memphis and won the national championship and the crowd was even BIGGER that night. People as far as you can see. Loo how far back they go down the street...

I get chills just talking about it. You sort of just had to be there to truly understand the energy and excitement and spectacle.

Let's just pause and remember how awesome that shot was...
And now, just for old time's sake (I hope I'm not jinxing anything here)...

Al has legit watched that video at least twice a night for the last week.
Happy #ThrowbackThursday everyone. And Happy March Madness.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
(and good luck to Wichita St. - my mom's alma mater)!)

xoxo,
K

thursday finds

Apologies for the short posts this week, I've been focused on my trip to Kansas City all week long. I'm headed home tonight to spend time with my mama and sis to shop, snugs, and decorate my sister's new apartment. (I'll also get to see my dad, step-mom, and step-dad too! A little time with all my loves.) Excitement doesn't even begin to describe my feelings. This whole trip stemmed from me bawling one morning a few weeks ago when my mom and sister Facetimed me when they were together. No matter how old and how used to living away from them I get, I think I'll always feel a bit envious and sad whenever my family is all together without me.  But! Today's the day. I get to squeeze their faces in a few hours! I might just jump for joy (like that gif ^^ of us back in Mexico).

While I'm away, enjoy double the amount of links I'm loving from the week.  I'll be back Monday and back to regular scheduled posts next week.

Look! Bernice Abbot! Remember when I named my camera after her? I love learning about her. What an impressive lady.

Behind the scenes with Dominique Ansel (the cronut inventor).

Did you know this factoid about The Oscars?

Oh no. This is serious.

Amusement park meets food stuff. I want to go to there.

On of my favorite home fragrance brands now has a skincare line.

And a bunch of stuff about the Adele Dazeem/Idina Menzel scandal:
Travoltify your own name! Mine is Kenzie Ree.
Couldn't agree more with The Fug Girl's take on the whole baffling moment.
     Idina and Jimmy. Love.

What Barbie looks like with normal proportions. Perfection. Genius. Why is this only now coming out in 2014?

THIS. is. awesome. and weird. How'd they do that?

Speaking of reading. Currently reading this.

Yep. All of these are right. I once only bought groceries from the bodega next to us for 3 weeks straight.

What kind of entertainer are you? I got mostly B's and D's.  My goal every time I entertain is to be like Ina.

Leaving you with two very important food-related items. One. and Two.

And with that, I'm off to the airport, my loves. Have a lovely weekend! (And if anyone is in New York this weekend and sees Al and Lily at the park, give them my love. Poor Lil cried the whole time I was packing last night.)

K

throwback thursday

Some oldies for Throwback Thursday.

"Oh, hey, didn't see you there.
This is my favorite shirt...
and my favorite pose."

And check out this hunky pitcher.

Be back soon with a new recipe for Wine Night!
